Victim Dead After Shooting Outside Saint Paul Target

Saint Paul police are investigating a fatal shooting this morning in the parking lot of the Target store at 1744 Suburban Ave. after a male victim died a short distance away.

Police have confirmed that the victim was transported by a private vehicle a short distance from the parking lot, to Fire Station 24 at 273 White Bear Ave.

Photos shared with MN CRIME show the victim, lying on the sidewalk outside the fire station, with a white sheet covering his body.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office has identified the victim of the shooting as Jadonn I. Taylor, 23, of Saint Paul.

There were no SPFD personnel involved in the incident, and Taylor was found just outside.

Officers were dispatched at 9:51 a.m. and the suspect was reported to have fled the scene. A wide search ensued in the area, with K9 and drone being used. According to police dispatches, the suspect was not located.

According to dispatches, customers inside the Target store were ushered to the rear near the loading dock after the gunfire rang out. A white crime scene investigation van was parked outside into the afternoon, with the store closed and the parking lot taped off.

There were no other injuries reported in the incident.

It’s the 9th homicide of 2023 in Saint Paul, and anyone with information is asked to call SPPD at 651-266-5650.

UPDATE: According to police, Thomas Derek Coleman, 25, was arrested Wednesday, April 19 in connection to the killing of Taylor. Coleman was booked into the Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of 2nd-degree murder.
