2 Brothers Found Dead After House Fire Near Duluth
Two brothers from Canosia Township were found dead after a fire in their home on Jan. 1 just before noon.
Emergency crews were sent to the residence in Canosia Township, which is about 15 miles northeast of Duluth after a 911 caller went to check on the welfare of the men after they were unable to get ahold of them for several days on the phone.
Once at the residence, it was discovered there had been a fire inside the home sometime in the past few days that eventually extinguished itself. When crews arrived, they located the bodies of Terry Duane Rousse and Jerry Wayne Rousse, both 68, inside the residence. The fire caused considerable heat and smoke damage to the residence.
Preliminary autopsy reports for both individuals determined the deaths to be accidental. Terry Rousse's manner of death was determined to be smoke inhalation and thermal injury due to fire. Jerry Rousse’s manner of death was determined to be smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide toxicity.
During the investigation on scene, deputies located a smoke detector within the residence but it was found to be inoperable.
The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s office is continuing its investigation into the cause of the fire.
