Two people are dead after a shooting in the Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood of Saint Paul early Tuesday morning.

Police were called just before 5:45 a.m., to an apartment on the 1400 block of Minnehaha Ave. E. on a report of a person shot. An adult female victim with an apparent gunshot wound was found inside an apartment. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A male was found with a gunshot wound outside of the building, and was also pronounced deceased at the scene.

These are the 11th and 12th homicides of 2023 in Saint Paul, Saint Paul Police Sergeant Mike Ernster has confirmed.

The investigation of the homicide is still underway. Police are working to determine the relationship between the two victims and any motive behind the incident.

As of late Tuesday, there have been no arrests. If you have any information, call police.

UPDATE: The two people involved have been identified as Jonathan Evans, 18, and Tracey Loving, 27, both of Saint Paul. Police say that Loving and Evans were cousins. The case is being investigated as a murder-suicide, SPPD said. Evidence indicates that Evans shot Loving and then took his own life outside of the building. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
