SCANNER: Pursuit Ends Near Minneapolis' 'NoGoZone'

Minneapolis police pursued a pickup involved in a shots fired incident through the south side Friday, March 13, ending just east of the so-called “NoGoZone” or “autonomous zone” near E. 38th St. & Chicago Ave.

The pursuit and subsequent arrests prompted scores of officers to descend upon the area, including assistance overhead from a Minnesota State Patrol airplane.

It started shortly before 10 p.m. near E. Franklin Ave. & Chicago Ave., when an officer radioed that gunshots were fired from someone inside a Chevy Silverado pickup. Several squads pursued the driver for about 15 minutes as he evaded stop sticks twice before leading police to the area of E. 38th St. & Elliot Ave., just one block from the area of 38th & Chicago Ave., where George Floyd died while in police custody last May. The area has been barricaded since shortly after Floyd’s death, with police being met with hostile crowds when they have responded in the past.

“We’re coming in!'“

Officers were warned not to chase the suspects into the memorial area if they bailed from the vehicle during the Friday night pursuit, the dispatch audio revealed.

An officer could be heard responding, “too late, we’re coming in, we’re coming in!” Shortly after, assistance was requested from any available officer across the city, as a State Patrol airplane watched from above.

Get as many squads as you can!” another officer said.

Police could be seen with guns drawn in video later posted to social media as they shouted for the suspects inside the pickup to comply. After the pickup was surrounded, the suspects were reported to have their hands up out of the windows and were eventually taken into custody. Officers found that one suspect had a gunshot wound to the hand and all indications were that wound was sustained before the pursuit started, but official information from MPD had not yet been released as of 2 a.m. Saturday.
