The BCA confirmed late Thursday that members of the West Central Drug Task Force were attempting to stop a vehicle when a State Trooper and an Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Deputy discharged their weapons.

The BCA said a white male who was inside the vehicle was shot. CPR was underway at the scene shortly after, per dispatch audio.

The man died at the scene and another person who was inside the vehicle was “injured by gunfire,” the BCA said, but the extent of that person’s injuries was not clear.

A handgun was recovered after the shooting, authorities said.

The BCA has not yet released more information on if the man was wanted for a crime or what preceded the traffic stop.

There were no officers injured. The State Trooper involved was wearing a body camera that recorded portions of the incident, the BCA said.

The BCA investigates officer-involved shootings and use of force deaths in the state.
