Crews Respond to Chlorine Leak at White Bear Township Pumping Station

Just after 6:30 PM on Monday evening, the White Bear Lake Fire Department, along with departments that make up the North Suburban HazMat Team responded to the 4000 block of Otter Lake Rd in White Bear Township for a suspected chlorine leak at a water pumping station.

A public works employee reported the leak and said there were multiple chlorine tanks located inside the building, but it was unknown where the leak was occurring.

HazMat crew members made entry into the pump house just after 8 PM. Crews were able to shut off the chlorine tank valves and turn on the ventilation system in the building. Crews remained on the scene late into the evening to clear the chlorine from the structure. The cause of the leak is unknown at this time.

Fire crews reported that three individuals drove themselves to the hospital for evaluation after being exposed to chlorine. Their conditions were unknown as of 8 PM Monday night.
