Deer Causes ATV Crash in Northern Minnesota; Injured Driver Airlifted

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says a man in his 50s was airlifted to a Duluth hospital following an ATV crash Saturday afternoon.

Around 4:42 p.m. on October 19, deputies responded to the 8500 block of Ralph Road in Alango Township after receiving reports of the crash.

Witnesses told authorities the ATV driver was traveling at around 30 miles per hour when a deer ran onto the road. The ATV driver struck the deer and flipped, ejecting the driver into the roadway.

Officials say the driver, who was not wearing a helmet, sustained possible internal injuries and was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Duluth. His name is being withheld by authorities until family is notified.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Cook and Virginia Ambulance services, Lifelink Helicopter, the Minnesota State Patrol, the Minnesota DNR and U.S. Forest Service Law enforcement.
