Motorcyclist Dies in Crash on Northbound I-35W in Minneapolis

a 61-year-old motorcyclist from New Brighton died in a Crash with a car late Friday night in Minneapolis.

The incident occurred around 10:24 p.m. on Oct. 18 near Washington Avenue South, along the northbound lanes of Interstate 35W.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound when a Toyota Camry, which had pulled off onto the right shoulder, attempted to merge back into traffic.

Authorities say the motorcycle lost control and collided with the rear of the Camry. After the impact, the motorcycle veered toward the left shoulder, while the Camry came to rest on the right shoulder, just west of Washington Avenue South.

The motorcyclist, identified as Gordon Wayne Zieman, of New Brighton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Zieman was wearing a helmet, and alcohol involvement is unknown at this time. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the official cause of death.

The driver of the Camry, a 20-year-old male from Cottage Grove, was not injured in the crash. The Minnesota State Patrol is conducting the crash investigation.
