Driver Arrested for DWI After Killing Pedestrian In Richfield
A crash in Richfield early Sunday left a 56-year-old man dead after he was struck by a suspected intoxicated driver.
Police responded to Nicollet Avenue near 66th Street just after 1 a.m. after getting reports of a person down in the roadway.
Officers found the man there and determined he had been struck by a driver. He was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been identified.
The driver involved—a 40-year-old Richfield resident—stopped their vehicle a short distance away and approached officers. Authorities noted signs of impairment, and the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving while impaired and criminal vehicular operation.
Preliminary evidence suggested the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the crash, police said. The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with the investigation, including crash reconstruction.
