More than 50 firefighters responded to a large fire at Mills Fleet Farm in Blaine shortly after 11:30 a.m. Thursday. While crews responded, they reported a very large column of black smoke filling the air.

Upon arrival, crews found a fast-moving fire containing palletized fertilizer, patio furniture, deer stands and other combustibles with flames reaching 50 feet high.

Due to the large fire, a second alarm was requested, bringing crews from Coon Rapids, Ham Lake, and a second crew from Centennial Fire Department to the scene. Crews worked for approximately 25 minutes using large amounts of water to bring the fire under control.

Due to the temperatures and size of the fire, a third alarm was requested which brought crews from Andover, Fridley and Lake Johanna fire departments to the scene. Crews remained there for approximately four hours.

One firefighter was injured and treated at the scene by Allina EMS personnel.

The main building of Fleet Farm did not suffer fire damage and is operating normally.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and a damage estimate was not available.
