The State Patrol said Peterson submitted to a breath test and registered a blood alcohol concentration of 0.14. Jail records show Peterson was released from custody after posting $4,000 bail.
Peterson had been in Minnesota the previous day to make an appearance at U.S. Bank Stadium during the Vikings' draft day party. He played ten seasons with the team after being selected in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft and was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year that season, later earning seven Pro Bowl selections, the 2012 NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year honors. In 2007, he also set the NFL single-game rushing record with 296 yards.
In Nov. 2014, Peterson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault in Texas for using a “switch” to discipline his young son. Peterson admitted during interviews with child protection and with police that he had struck his son with the object and with his belt. He was suspended for the rest of the season.
For the DWI charge in Richfield early Friday morning, Peterson is next scheduled to be in court on May 9.
