Icy Conditions Lead to Fatal Interstate Crash in Bloomington

A collision on an icy Interstate 494 in Bloomington early Monday morning resulted in one driver’s death.
The crash occurred around 6:33 a.m. on westbound Interstate 494 near Highway 169.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 2009 Chevy Impala was traveling in the right lane when it spun out on ice and slid across all lanes of traffic. A semi-truck traveling in the left lane then collided with the driver's side of the Impala.
Emergency responders including personnel from Allina and the Eden Prairie Fire Department arrived at the scene. The driver of the Impala, identified as 45-year-old Yadira Gabriela Hernandez-Aguilar, of Shakopee, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that she had been wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
The driver of the semi-truck, identified as 76-year-old George Leslie Jensen, of Eagan, was not injured. He was also wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The Minnesota State Patrol noted that road conditions were snowy and icy at the time of the incident and investigation remains ongoing.
Troopers responded to 83 property damage crashes, four injury crashes, this fatal crash, 21 vehicles that went off the road, five vehicle spinouts and one jackknifed semi between midnight and 8 a.m. on Monday, the Patrol said.
