Inmate Punched, Bit Guards at Stillwater Prison During Brawl
An inmate formerly at the state prison MCF-Stillwater has been charged with two counts of felony 4th-degree assault on a correctional employee after allegedly punching two guards who were breaking up a fight.
Court documents say that on March 6 a fight broke out among several inmates inside a unit of the prison.
A correctional officer was responding to break up the fight when another inmate, Christian D’Vantrick Bonner, 29, moved into the officer’s path and struck him in the jaw with a closed fist, knocking him to the ground.
A second correctional officer attempted to assist when Bonner punched him as well. Bonner was tackled to the ground and, while officers attempted to restrain him, Bonner bit one of the guards on the left side of the chest.
Both correctional officers suffered injuries and were evaluated at a local hospital. One guard was placed on “light duty” for several days following the assault while the other had a bite mark visible several weeks after the assault. Both officers required follow-up medical appointments.
According to the Department of Corrections, Bonner has since been moved to the maximum security prison in Oak Park Heights. Bonner began serving his prison sentence for another assault in May 2016 and is currently expected to be released in August 2025.
