Mom Shot By Juvenile Daughter in St. Louis County, Minn.
St. Louis County emergency crews responded to a home on the 9200 block of Range Line Rd. in Morcom Township, near Cook, on Jan. 16 after a 911 caller reported they had been shot and was driving to the Cook Hospital. The caller reported that their daughter had shot her and that she was still at home, but had access to a vehicle.
As deputies responded to the home where the shooting occurred, they located a vehicle stuck in a ditch that appeared to match the one the suspect had access to. The suspect was located, identified and arrested at the crash site.
The victim of the shooting was identified as Stephanie L. Straw, 40, of rural Cook. The suspect has been identified as 16-year-old Charlize R. Bjorhus. She’s been charged with second-degree attempted murder in St. Louis County Juvenile Court. It’s unknown if prosecutors will seek to have the case tried in adult court.
Bjorhus is being held at the Arrowhead Juvenile Center in Duluth, pending charges by the St. Louis County Attorney’s office.
An update on Straw’s condition has not been released, but officials state she was in stable condition while being transferred to a Duluth hospital by ambulance.
Police say the investigation is on-going and that this was an isolated incident.
