One Dead After Deputy Shoots Armed Suspect in Wright County

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy encountered a suspect armed with a weapon while on a traffic stop, ultimately leading to the deputy fatally shooting the suspect.

A press release states that a Wright County deputy initiated the traffic stop around 4:47 a.m. on Ivory Street in the city of St. Michael. At some point, the driver and the only occupant of the vehicle exited the vehicle with a weapon, confronted the deputy, and refused to comply with the deputy’s commands. The deputy discharged his firearm, striking the man.

Wright County deputies began providing life-saving measures until paramedics arrived on scene, but ultimately paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The deputy involved has been placed on administrative leave which is standard procedures.

The Wright County Sheriff’s Office has asked for assistance from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate the shooting.
