Stillwater Inmates Charged After Escape from Custody
Two inmates being held at the Stillwater Prison who walked away from a minimum-security unit Tuesday night each face a new felony charge of escape from custody.
Criminal complaints filed on Friday allege that inmates Timothy Curtis St. Clair Jr., 36, and Kristopher Lee Roybal, 40, walked away from the minimum-security housing area late Tuesday night. Both inmates were wearing GPS ankle monitors which showed them near a restaurant in Oak Park Heights and they were taken into custody nearby.
Both inmates were still wearing their grey prison uniforms which were covered in dirt and mud. The charges say that St. Clair had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him.
According to court records, St. Clair was sentenced last March to 21 months in prison after at least five probation violations on a no-contact-order violation, a felony, in Cass County. He was expected to be released in March of 2024.
Roybal was sentenced to nearly eight years in prison in 2019 on methamphetamine possession charges. Roybal was expected to be released in July of 2024. Court records show that just eight days prior to his foiled escape, the Minnesota Court of Appeals rejected Roybal’s appeal to dismiss his case.
Both inmates will make court appearances on the new felony escape charges in June. The charges carry a sentence of up to five additional years in prison.
