VIDEO: Bloomington Pursuit of Shots Fired Suspect Ends in Crash in Eagan

A suspect fleeing from the scene of gunshots fired toward a residence in Bloomington led officers on a pursuit that ended in a crash off Hwy. 77 at Cliff Rd. in Eagan early Thursday evening.

The gunshots were reportedly fired on the 8500 block of 2nd Ave. S., with a vehicle seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed to the south.

Officers gave pursuit, southbound into Eagan on Hwy. 77.

The driver exited at Cliff Rd. and slammed into a vehicle in the intersection, then continued down into the ditch.

The driver and occupant were detained and the suspect vehicle eventually caught fire. A gun was later found inside, police confirmed.

Police say two people who were in the vehicle that was struck in the intersection were taken to the hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries.

There were no immediate reports of injury from the gunshots in Bloomington.

UPDATE: Bloomington police released a photo of the AR pistol that was seized from inside the suspect’s vehicle and announced that charges are pending.

A juvenile female driver and juvenile male passenger were taken into custody at the crash Thursday night. Charges are pending for 2nd-degree assault, drive-by shooting, fleeing in a motor vehicle and ineligible person in possession of a firearm.

A .223 caliber AR-style pistol was recovered and found to be loaded with Green Tip .223 ammunition. A mesh bag was attached to the firearm to collect shell casings.

Prior to the pursuit, Bloomington police said at around 6 p.m., an attempted robbery of person was reported in the area of the 8800 block of Old Cedar Avenue in Bloomington. Investigation into the robbery is continuing and police believe the two incidents may be related.
