VIDEO: Driver Hits Child in Maplewood, Flees Scene

MnDOT traffic cameras captured the crash and the vehicle fleeing the scene on Saturday.

Maplewood police are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that injured a 12-year-old bicyclist on Saturday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of White Bear Ave. N. & Highway 36 around 7:45 p.m.

When crews arrived, they determined the boy suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

According to initial scanner traffic, two drivers that witnessed the crash were following the vehicle and told police it had stopped at the intersection of Jessamine Ave. W. & Sylvan St., but the driver was no longer in the vehicle.

Officers later found the suspect vehicle there but it was unoccupied and a search for the driver was unsuccessful.

The vehicle was described as a blue Buick Enclave with plate MKA-244. The suspect driver was described as a black or Hispanic male wearing a red shirt, blue pants and a baseball hat.
