Woman Dies After 3-Vehicle Crash in Scott County

A 70-year-old woman died Monday after a three-vehicle crash at a Scott County intersection.

State Patrol says a Ford Escape and Ford Explorer were both southbound on Highway 13 in Cedar Lake Township around 5:10 p.m.

As the driver of a Hyundai Sonata entered the intersection from eastbound 247th Street, the driver of the Escape struck the Sonata, which then collided with the Explorer, the Patrol said.

The driver of the Sonata, a 70-year-old woman from Cedar Lake Township, died of her injuries. Her identity is expected to be released Tuesday around noon and according to initial information, she was not wearing a seat belt.

Both were wearing seat belts, according to the State Patrol.

Road conditions at the time were reported as wet, a crash report said, though the cause of the crash is still being investigated. The Scott County Sheriff's Office, North Ambulance and Mdewakanton Ambulance assisted at the scene.
