Man Charged with Killing Mom, Assaulting Stranger the Next Day

A Prior Lake man is facing multiple felony charges in connection with the killing of his mother and a subsequent sexual assault at a stranger’s home in Burnsville.

Aaron Matthew Schlossin, 36, has been charged in Scott County with second-degree murder in the death of 67-year-old Diana Kaiser. He also faces separate charges in Dakota County for second-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree burglary following an alleged assault of a woman the day after the homicide.

Officers were called to Kaiser’s home in the 4500 block of Colorado Street Southeast on Sunday after a neighbor reported she hadn’t been seen since Thursday. That neighbor told police they had last seen Kaiser with Schlossin on Thursday night. The neighbor recalled seeing Schlossin exit the home that evening and inhale from a nitrous oxide canister—commonly known as a "whippit"—before asking for a cigarette and leaving in a vehicle.

Police saw a broken liquor bottle top on the front porch and looked through a window, where they spotted red stains on a bedroom bedsheet. They also saw additional blood on a window shade, mattress and floor. A sergeant noticed a human leg sticking out from a pile of blankets and requested medics.

Inside the residence, officers found a naked woman lying on the bedroom floor. She was cold to the touch, purple and gray in color, with what appeared to be sustained trauma to her face and head. A broken lamp was discovered on her body and she was later identified as Diana Kaiser. Investigators found Schlossin’s wallet and identification card in a pair of jeans placed on top of the woman’s body, the court documents said.

Another neighbor told investigators she heard noises from the home around midnight Thursday, including a woman screaming and a man yelling. She said it sounded like the walls were being hit and the house was being ransacked. She told police the disturbance stopped around 1 a.m. and said it “sounded like someone was being murdered.”

The same neighbor described Schlossin as “unfriendly” and said his body language seemed off, the documents said.

The following day, Burnsville police were dispatched on a report of a sexual assault at a multi-unit residential complex. The female victim told officers she had been outside her home and felt uneasy after noticing a man staring at her. She went inside through a sliding glass door and began preparing dinner for a child present in the residence.

While holding a bag of frozen meat, the victim said she heard the sliding door open and saw the same man enter. He allegedly lunged at her, pinned her against a refrigerator and groped her. The suspect attempted to reach under her clothing, but the victim struck him in the face with the frozen meat and punched him, prompting him to flee.

Soon after, a nearby 911 caller reported seeing a man bleeding from the face and stumbling around. She said the man, who had holes in his clothes, approached her and asked for a ride, claiming not to remember how he got injured.

Responding officers located a man matching the victim’s description and identified him as Schlossin. He was taken into custody, and the woman later confirmed his identity.

Schlossin is due in Dakota County District Court on May 8 for the assault and burglary charges. A court date for the murder charge has not yet been set.
