11 Displaced After Maplewood Townhome Fire

MAPLEWOOD—Firefighters responded to a structure fire in a townhome on the 2800 block of Southlawn Dr. just after 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Crews arrived and encountered heavy fire in one unit of a three-unit townhome building and began working to extinguish the blaze. The fire ultimately affected all three units.

Maplewood Fire Chief Michael Mondor says that working smoke detectors alerted all eleven occupants to leave the structure and they were uninjured.

Mondor says a cat was rescued from the unit, but a dog was found dead and another cat remains missing. The eleven occupants were all displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Firefighters from White Bear Lake, North St. Paul, Oakdale, Roseville, Little Canada and Vadnais Heights all assisted at the blaze. Firefighters remained on the scene until just after 6 p.m.

The Maplewood Fire Department is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
