Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, Rochester Fire units were alerted to a fire alarm at the Woodridge Apartments located at 2804 2nd St SW. Initial arriving units noticed smoke coming from the building, with many residents evacuating.

Crews located smoke coming from a door on the second floor and forced entry. They encountered heavy smoke inside the apartment and located a victim just inside the door. Flames were located in the kitchen and were quickly knocked down.

The Rochester Fire Department did not release any information on the victim’s condition, however according to scanner audio, the victim was suffering from severe smoke inhalation, and a trauma team was requested to meet the ambulance at the hospital.

According to the press release, the sprinkler system in the building helped keep the flames from spreading before firefighters arrived. After the fire was extinguished, crews ventilated the complex and ensured it was safe for other residents to return to their apartments.

The apartment suffered significant smoke, fire, and water damage. The apartment below suffered from water damage as well.

The Rochester Fire Marshal’s Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
