Driver Killed After Vehicle Flips, Submerges in Brooklyn Park Creek

A driver was killed Thursday morning after their vehicle overturned and became submerged in a creek in Brooklyn Park.

At approximately 8:25 a.m., Brooklyn Park Police and Fire were dispatched to the scene near Green Haven Drive and County Road 81.

A witness reported seeing the vehicle flip and enter the water. Responders found a single vehicle that had exited County Road 81, overturned and submerged in a rain-swollen creek.

Firefighters attempted to reach the driver but required tow trucks to extract the vehicle due to the high water levels and swift current.

North Memorial paramedics pronounced the driver, who was the sole occupant, dead at the scene. The Brooklyn Park Police Department is investigating with assistance from the Hennepin County Crime Lab, Hennepin County Water Patrol, and the Minnesota State Patrol. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the driver’s identity and cause of death.
