Man Arrested in St. Louis County After 28-year-old Woman's Overdose Death

Saint Louis County authorities have taken a man into custody on a 3rd-degree murder charge after a woman’s fatal overdose last year.

Cordaro Demario Ware, 32, is being held at the St. Louis County Jail awaiting a court appearance.

On Nov. 22, 2021, emergency personnel responded to a possible overdose at an address in Midway Township, about 10 miles southwest of Duluth.

When crews arrived at the home on the 5500 block of North Cloquet Rd., they found Kaylee Margaret Englin, 28, of Proctor, deceased inside the residence.

Deputies located evidence at the scene that suggested an opiate overdose. An autopsy later revealed that her cause of death was an overdose of a combination of drugs including brorphine, fentanyl, morphine and xylazine.

Investigators determined that Ware had sold Englin the controlled substances that resulted in her death and a warrant was issued on April 20.

The Saint Louis County Sheriff’s Office said there were 36 opioid overdose deaths in St. Louis County in 2020 (the most recent year for which data is available), which is an increase of 240% from 2000, when only 15 opioid deaths were recorded in the county.

In 2020, 60% of overdose deaths involved synthetic opioids like fentanyl, authorities said.

According to an online obituary, Englin was a project manager for a consulting firm in Minneapolis and a “talented, award-winning dancer.”
