Man Feared Dead in Northern Minnesota House Fire
A house fire early Thursday morning in Leiding Township left one person dead and a home destroyed, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office says.
Deputies and firefighters were dispatched just before 7 a.m. to a home in the 3500 block of County Road 119 after a woman reported the house was on fire and that she couldn’t find her husband.
Emergency crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed. The woman, age 57, was able to escape the flames, but her husband, also 57, was last seen awake inside. Authorities believe the man did not make it out of the home and died in the blaze. He has not yet been identified.
Firefighters from multiple departments battled the flames, but the house was a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the sheriff’s office, with assistance from the Minnesota State Fire Marshal.
Agencies responding included the Orr Fire Department, Cook Fire Department, Bois Forte Fire Department, Orr Ambulance, Buyck Fire Department, Kabetogama Fire Department, Bearville Fire Department and French Fire Department.
