Minneapolis firefighters responded to a massive blaze late Wednesday night that displaced over 50 residents and sent three people, including two firefighters, to the hospital.

Marquise Trevone Hammonds-Ford, of Monticello, entered a guilty plea on Oct. 1, 2024, for one count of prohibited possession of a firearm. As part of the plea, more serious charges were dismissed.

Curtez Deshawn Graham, 29, was sentenced to an additional 15 years in prison on Tuesday for aiding and abetting first-degree assault of a correctional employee at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Oak Park Heights.

A Red Lake woman has been sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for felony child neglect following the death of a child under her care, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Minnesota.

Prosecutors say 34-year-old Desean James Solomon, also known as “Black,” 44-year-old Michael Allen Burrell, known as “Skitz,” and 26-year-old Leontawan Lentez Holt, known by aliases including “Leon” and “Shotta,” were convicted on all charges.

Authorities say the first incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on the 5100 block of 41st Avenue South, where a robbery at gunpoint was reported. A short time later, officers responded to a similar robbery at gunpoint on the 3400 block of Bloomington Avenue.

Duluth Police say a motorcyclist died following a crash involving an SUV and two other vehicles on Monday morning.

Authorities say the motorcyclist was westbound on Green Haven Parkway when he left the roadway and collided with a pole near the intersection of Thurston Avenue in Anoka shortly before 12:20 p.m.

Authorities say a woman was driving an SUV eastbound on Viking Blvd NW when she collided with a motorcyclist who had stopped in the roadway. The motorcyclist was waiting to make a left turn when he was struck from behind.

The still-unidentified ranger was assisting the civilians—a father and his two sons—late Sunday morning at the far-northern Minnesota park, close to the Canadian border, when the incident occurred.

Initial investigation suggests the shooting took place in the 16200 block of Florida Way, police said. Not long after the incident, two people showed up at a nearby hospital and both had gunshot wounds. Investigators believe both people are connected to the same shooting.

A motorcyclist died and his passenger was hospitalized Saturday evening after a crash on Highway 12 in Minnetonka. It led to authorities closing down the westbound lanes for several hours as the investigation unfolded.

Authorities say Jeffery Lee Niemi, 39, of Duluth, was arrested after he was tracked down using facial recognition software and other digital forensic methods following the discovery of a series of explicit videos by the Queensland Police Service in Australia.

The State Patrol and Aitkin County authorities say the crash occurred around 5:15 p.m. Friday when the driver of a GMC Suburban pulling a trailer failed to stop at a stop sign on County Road 3. The Suburban was struck by a 2019 GMC Yukon traveling northbound on Highway 169.

A MnDOT camera near the crash captured the 20-year-old driver drifting across the median without any signs of correction. The camera then pans to reveal the aftermath of the high-speed collision. Two people were airlifted from the scene.

Surveillance video captured the moment as school staff worked frantically to move children out of the way of the juvenile driver, who swerved across the grass and sidewalk between the school and playground. Fortunately, no children were injured during the incident.

Deann M. Jensen is charged with four felony counts of mistreating animals for alleged abuse and neglect of dozens of cats in her care. Authorities say they first received complaints in Oct. 2022 about sick kittens being sold from her residence.

Michael Lee Kurkowski was sentenced this week after pleading guilty to producing sexually explicit images of a minor and sending graphic messages about a plan to kill the victim’s parents, assault the victim’s sister and then murder her, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to a reported shooting around 4:15 a.m. to the 1400 block of Seventh Street East in Saint Paul. Police found the victim with a gunshot wound through his chin and cheek.

Prosecutors have filed additional charges against 36-year-old Joshua Anthony Jones, accused of shooting four people and attempting to shoot a fifth during a violent rampage.
