Coon Rapids Woman Charged After 79 Neglected Cats Found in Garage
Deann M. Jensen is charged with four felony counts of mistreating animals for alleged abuse and neglect of dozens of cats in her care. Authorities say they first received complaints in Oct. 2022 about sick kittens being sold from her residence.
Man Charged for Accidentally Shooting into Neighbor's Home
Coon Rapids police were called to the home in March after the man told his neighbor that he had unintentionally discharged his handgun, causing the bullet to strike his house. Officers say the man was cooperative and turned over the handgun, as well as the discharged casing.

One person was seriously injured in a home explosion Wednesday afternoon in Coon Rapids. The cause of the explosion is under investigation and several other homes were damaged.
Motorcyclist Killed in Coon Rapids Crash
The Coon Rapids Police Department says a 25-year-old man is dead after witnesses say he ran a red light and was struck by a vehicle Thursday evening. Police were called to the intersection of Northdale Boulevard Northwest and Round Lake Boulevard Northwest just before 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Officers arrived and found bystanders providing CPR to the motorcyclist.
Andover Man Gets 18 Years for 2020 Fatal Shooting in Coon Rapids
An Andover man was sentenced Monday to 18 years in prison for killing a 19-year-old outside a Coon Rapids grocery store in November 2020. Vaughn Jarod Coklas, 20, was convicted of 2nd-degree murder for killing Staveonte El Brown and received a sentence of 216 months in prison with credit for 477 days already served.
