Minneapolis Man Charged with Fatally Striking Priest on Bike in Rosemount

A 26-year-old Minneapolis man has been charged with criminal vehicular homicide in the death of a priest who was struck while riding his bicycle on Oct. 25, 2021 in Rosemount. An arrest warrant for Trejean Derrell Curry was just issued on March 17, 2022, and he made his first court appearance Wednesday, with bail set at $200,000 without conditions. His next court date is April 14 in Hastings.

CHARGES: Ex-Boyfriend Set Woman on Fire After Fatal Stabbing at St. Paul Warehouse

A Bloomington man has been charged with 2nd-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend multiple times and lighting her on fire at a Saint Paul shipping warehouse, then fleeing the scene and starting his own house ablaze. Patrick Morris Simmons, 47, was formally charged Wednesday, with the court documents giving more insight into the circumstances of the woman’s grisly death.

Man Arrested After Woman Found Fatally Burned at Saint Paul Shipping Warehouse

A woman found badly burned and unresponsive at a shipping warehouse Tuesday morning in Saint Paul has died of her injuries and a man has been arrested in relation, police say. Police were called to the 1700 block of Wynne Ave. just before 9 a.m. for a report of “a woman on fire.” When officers arrived, they located a woman in her 40s who was unresponsive, not breathing and appeared to have been badly burned, SPPD said in a media release.

No Charges After Fatal Shooting of Suspect in S. Minneapolis Home Invasion

Charges will not be filed against a homeowner after the suspect in a burglary and attempted home invasion was fatally shot in south Minneapolis last month. The shooting happened on the 3300 block of 25th Ave. S. late Feb. 22. Martin Lee Johnson, 30, of Minneapolis, was found shot in the chest in the back yard of the residence and died of his injuries at the scene.

RCSO Deputy's Use of Force Ruled Justified in Mounds View Suspect's Death

The Dakota County Attorney’s Office announced this week that a Ramsey County sheriff’s deputy was justified in his use of deadly force when he struck a suspect on foot who had fired gunshots toward officers in Mounds View last fall. The suspect who later died of his injuries—Troy Engstrom, 48—could be seen on squad camera video Sept. 22, 2021, firing a gun at an officer’s vehicle. It struck the vehicle once but the officer was not injured.

South Minneapolis Shooting Leaves Man Dead, 3 Hurt

A man was shot and killed early Sunday morning after an argument led to gunfire at a residence on the 2700 block of Blaisdell Ave. S., Minneapolis police have confirmed. Three other people were hurt when the shots rang out shortly before 2:25 a.m. Officers arrived to find bullet damage to the outside of the residence and a large crowd still inside.

Dakota County Sheriff Not Seeking Re-election

Dakota County Sheriff Tim Leslie will not seek another term in the post, he announced Friday afternoon. Leslie says he plans to work part-time and spend time with grandkids, traveling, golfing and volunteering. He’s held the position since 2015. Leslie writes in the release that he encourages Chief Deputy Joe Leko to run for sheriff in the election this year. Leko is a 24-year department veteran.

22-year-old Driver Gets 4 Years for Killing Woman on Mobility Scooter

A 22-year-old Minneapolis man was sentenced Friday to just over four years in prison for fatally striking a woman who was on a mobility scooter last October. Cameron Mikkel Bendson pleaded guilty in January to one count of criminal vehicular homicide. Bendson was sentenced Mar. 4 to 50 months in prison and five years of probation, with credit for 144 days already served in jail.
